Half term is here. The kids need something to do. And we’ve got something a bit special happening right here at Walkden Town Centre this week.
The Walkden Space Adventure lands on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th May – and it’s completely free.
Whether you’ve got little ones who are obsessed with rockets, older kids who fancy something a bit different, or you just need a reason to get out of the house this half term – this one’s for you.
What’s On
The Space Adventure is set up outside Tesco, inside the centre, across both days. Here’s what to expect:
🚀 Rocket Launch Experience Come face to face with an incredible full-scale rocket display. The kind of thing that stops you in your tracks and makes even the grown-ups say “wow.”
👨🚀 Astronaut Selfie Station Snap a pic as a family of astronauts. There’s a brilliant photo frame set up on-site – stick your heads in, strike a pose, and you’ve got a half term memory sorted. Share it and tag us – we’d love to see your little explorers.
🪐 Planet Trail Around Walkden’s Independent Stores This one’s our favourite. Follow the Planet Trail around Walkden’s independent shops, discover the planets, and explore the centre in a whole new way. It’s interactive, it’s educational (don’t tell the kids), and it supports the brilliant local businesses that make Walkden what it is.
Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve had loads of questions coming in on Facebook, so here are the answers all in one place.
What time does it run? The Space Adventure is there for both full days – Thursday 28th and Friday 29th May. It runs throughout the day inside the centre, outside Tesco. There are no set start and finish times, so you can pop in whenever suits you. Early morning, after lunch, late afternoon — it’s all good.
Is there a set schedule or timed activities? The Rocket display, Selfie Station and Planet Trail are all self-guided, so you go at your own pace. There are no timed performances or ticketed slots – just turn up and enjoy.
Is it really free? Yes. Completely free. No tickets. No booking required. Just come along.
Where exactly is it? Inside Walkden Town Centre, outside Tesco. You’ll see it as soon as you’re in – it’s hard to miss a rocket.
Is it suitable for all ages? Absolutely. It’s been designed for families with children of all ages, from little ones who just want to press buttons and point at things, to older kids who are genuinely curious about space. Adults aren’t exempt from enjoying it either.
How long will it take? That’s entirely up to you. Some families will do a quick 20-minute pop-in. Others might want to spend longer doing the full Planet Trail around the independent stores. There’s no rush either way.
Is there parking? Yes — free parking at Walkden Town Centre, as always.
